Cleveland.com: After-action report fails to ask: Was there another way?

An article published to Cleveland.com dissects the after-action report from Cleveland Police following the May 30, 2020, George Floyd protests downtown.

The article reviews what went wrong and led to arrested and injured protestors, the destruction of businesses in the city, and re-imagines what the protests might have been had Cleveland PD officers not thrown munitions into the crowd and instead taken a different course of action. The overarching message of the article: was there another way the police could have handled the thousands of protestors downtown?

On Cleveland police’s lack of preparation, Terry Gilbert says, ''They [Cleveland police] panicked, and they just started shooting indiscriminately these munitions. But that was not the focus of this report.”
