Cleveland.com: Most Criminal Charges Stemming From May 30 Riot in Downtown Cleveland Either Dropped or Drastically Reduced

Cleveland judges and prosecutors have dropped nearly half of the criminal cases tied to the George Floyd protest on May 30, 2020, in downtown Cleveland.

From rioting and curfew violations to misdemeanors, felonies, federal cases, and juvenile court cases, many are seeing cases dropped, fines reduced, and no additional jail time.

Sarah Gelsomino, who is representing many who were arrested during the protest, including one man who was arrested simply for picking up his Instacart order outdoors after curfew, says that he and dozens of others were unlawfully arrested that day and left in the county jail. “They shouldn't have to bear the brunt of horrendous policing… It's a complete misuse of the justice system and a waste of resources.''
