$2,291,000 Awarded to Anthony Lemons for 17 years in Prison

On Monday, November 22, 2021, the Ohio Controlling Board is expected to approve the final $1,800,000 payment to Anthony Lemons for his 17 years of wrongful imprisonment.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Anthony was convicted of murdering Eric Sims in 1995 in Cleveland, Ohio. No forensic evidence connected him to the crime. Anthony always claimed that he was innocent and that he was not present when Sims was murdered. He fought his conviction for many years and finally won his release in 2013. His wrongful conviction lawsuit was opposed by the Cuyahoga County prosecutor, but he finally prevailed this year and won an award of $2,291,000 in statutory damages, lost wages, attorney fees and expenses.

Exonerating and securing compensation for Anthony Lemons is one of the most satisfying achievements in our careers. We are honored to represent him and finally reverse this miscarriage of justice. Anthony lost his entire young adult life to prison. We will stand by him and urge the whole community to provide him positive opportunities going forward.
